Is Atleti primed for European conquest next season? Can they handle international heavyweights? Can they win? A surprise win over Real Madrid Femenino proved that city rivals Atleti Femenino are ready to play in the UWCL. Goalscorer and elite striker Deyna Castellanos struck early in the 4th minute, giving the Mattress-Makers a 1-0 lead. The lead was kept all the way until the 69th minute. There, Estefania Banini scored to widen the lead to 2-0. The result was maintained, giving Atleti the full three points over city rivals Real. Atleti Femenino will face middling side Huelva next.
Coming after their bizarre draw against Villarreal, Atleti will travel to RCDE Stadium. They will hope to earn the full three points with this starting lineup. GK Jan Oblak; LB Mario Hermoso, CB Felipe, RB Stefan Savic; LM Yannick Carrasco, LCM Angel Correa, DM Koke, RCM Marcos Llorente, RM Kieran Trippier; ST Antoine Griezmann, ST Luis Suarez
A promising start to the 21/22 season culminated in a blowout for Atleti. The Mattress-Makers blew out their overmatched rivals 5-0. Laia Aleixandri appeared on the scoresheet twice in the game, while Maitaine Lopez, Rasheedat Ajibade, and Deyna Castellanos also scored. Las Rojiblancas emerged with the same scoreline as the Barcelona team did today. Atleti's 5-0 victory will surely give them a good head of steam.
Atletico Madrid Femenino opened the scoring early with Maitane Lopez's ninth-minute goal. A long while later, in the 34th minute, Rasheedat Ajibade scored Atleti's second of the game. Right before the referee stopped play, Laia Aleixandri scored. Rayo is outmatched and outclassed compared to their Madrid-based rivals. Now that the second half has started, the squad will look to score even more goals.
In the final preliminary step to their European conquest, Atletico Madrid has confirmed their Champions League squad.
After Saul Niguez's long-awaited and suspenseful departure, Antoine Griezmann has picked up his jersey number. Rated at 60 million euros, Griezmann will be a very good acquisition for Los Rojiblancos. One of the best forwards in Europe, his numerous contributions will be needed.
Despite Antoine Griezmann nearly halving his wages in half, the former Barca player is still set to earn an immense amount of money. After sacrificing around half of his net salary(21M to 10M), Griezmann rejoins Atleti as the most paid player in Atleti. His weekly wages are estimated to be around 297,000 euros. Besides the loanee, Luis Suarez, Koke, Jan Oblak, and Joao Felix make up the top 5 paid Atleti players. In other news, Javi Montero has been sold to Turkish champs Besiktas for around 875 thousand euros.
Although Ivo Grbic was sent LOSC Lille's way this transfer window, Atletico could snatch a budding prospect of their own. 24-year-old Zeki Celik starred in LOSC Lille's title-winning campaign, but, instead of partaking in their title defense, it looks like he could leave. Worth around 20 million euros, he could be an understudy to Kieran Trippier(if he doesn't leave) or could fill in various positions. Either way, having Celik on your team isn't a bad thing. Especially if you can get him on a steal.
After a draw that saw Atletico Madrid get drawn into a group of death, Los Rojiblancos' fixtures have been released. They'll open with a home match against Porto, before traveling to Italy and facing Milan. Atleti will then face Liverpool at home, They'll then travel to England and face Liverpool at Anfield. They'll then wrap up the group stage with a home game against Milan and an away game at Porto. Stefan Savic is suspended for four games, thanks to his suspension from Atleti's loss to Chelsea. He'll miss the important clashes against Liverpool, the home game versus Porto, and the away match at Milan.
Reportedly an unwanted transfer from Atleti manager Diego Simeone, Brazilian phenom Marcos Paulo will pack his bags and head to Portuguese club Famalicao for the rest of the 21/22 season. The former Fluminense star was touted to stay at Madrid for the rest of the season, but his muscle injury complicated things. His only appearance in a red-and-white jersey was against Numancia on July 23. It isn't likely that Paulo will become an important piece of the Atleti offense. He could be sold to another side for a profit. However, if he doesn't turn heads at Portugal, it's safe to say that he will not be staying at Madrid for a long time after the end of his loan.
