Conceded from an Isaac Romero header in the 15th minute, unable to swat it away after a deep corner delivery to the back post. Kept the match within reach with multiple big-time saves against the likes of Óliver Torres and Marcos Acuña. 7

Started the game as a right wing-back, ineffective pushing the ball up the field — Sevilla were able to deny open lanes for Llorente and he was not comfortable. A move into the midfield didn’t help him much, either. 4.5

Gabriel Paulista

The former Valencia man took no chances at the back, recording eight clearances in a promising debut for Atlético Madrid. 6

Won three of his four ground duels, looked as composed as ever on the ball. Positionally caught out for pace on multiple occasions as the right-sided wide center-back. 5.5

Took a team-high 114 touches and pushed forward when the opportunity arose, created a decent chance for Álvaro Morata with a good through ball, one of his 13 passes into the final third. A bit uneasy defensively but won five of his eight ground duels. 5.5

Looked to cut onto his right foot for the occasional cross when given time out wide. Sent in a few promising crosses, but nothing ended up with a ball in the back of the net. 4.5

Beaten to the ball by Isaac Romero, who was able to out-jump the captain and head the ball past Jan Oblak for the game’s only goal. 4.5

De Paul

Created five chances and ran the Atlético midfield in another good showing. Made 17 passes into the final third and four recoveries in defense. 6.5

Physically overwhelmed by Sevilla’s bigger and stronger midfielders, not a surprise to see him removed at halftime. 4

Had only one clear sight of goal in a display that made it clear how badly he needs a rest. 5

Plagued by the offside flag, and Ørjan Nyland came up with a huge save to deny him an equalizer. Exited before halftime, in tears, after he injured his right knee while colliding with Sevilla midfielder Boubakary Soumaré. 4.5

While up top, the Dutchman’s chances on goal were slotted wide or saved by Nyland. 4.5

Pushed up the pitch and was able to cross balls into the area. His substitution added more dynamism to the attack. 5

A quiet cameo for the Argentine, who couldn’t make much of an impact in his time on the field. 5

Made simple, but effective passes. Couldn’t get much time forward on the ball to send in crosses or cause havoc out wide. 5

Came on for Lino late on. Couldn’t do much in his limited time. N/A
