Update: The clubs have decided to play the friendly in Turin tomorrow, according to Cadena SER and Cadena Cope. Atlético and Juventus later confirmed this decision in separate statments.

The original story is below, along with viewing information.

Atlético Madrid and Juventus have cancelled their preseason friendly in Tel Aviv, Israel, due to security concerns in the region.

Atlético were meant to play the Italian side on Sunday, Aug. 7. But the clubs released a statement on Saturday with the news that will end the Colchoneros’ preseason slate.

Due to the current security situation, Comtec Group (match promoter), Juventus and Atlético de Madrid announce that the friendly game between the two teams that was to take place in Israel this Sunday 7 August at Bloomfield Stadium in Tel Aviv, has been cancelled.

Israel wraplanes bombed the Gaza Strip on Friday night. Palestinian health officials reported that at least 10 people had died during the attacks. There have been threats of retaliation, with Tel Aviv mentioned as a target.

Atlético were meant to meet at Majadahonda on Saturday morning where they would fly to Israel but cancelled those plans with the game up in the air.

The club’s website says the game is cancelled, but also uses the word “suspended.” Diario As reported on the possibility that hosting the game in Turin is still on the cards.

The game at Bloomfield Stadium was supposed to be Atlético’s last preseason friendly before the start of the 2022-23 LaLiga campaign next weekend.
