The original story is below.
Sergio Reguilón will sign with Atlético Madrid for the season on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, according to multiple reports Saturday.
The Spanish international left-back will replace Renan Lodi, who will join Nottingham Forest in search of minutes ahead of the World Cup in November.
The left-back had been linked with a move away from Spurs all summer, and Atlético have moved ahead of Fulham and Serie A side Lazio to sign the player after Lodi expressed a desire to leave.
Atlético will get €5 million for loaning Lodi out for the year and a potential €30 million next year in the form of an option to buy. They also get Lodi’s wages off the bill, and that makes room for a replacement to arrive.
Reguilón is another player who might be thinking of the World Cup with this move. A Madrid native who came up through Real Madrid’s academy and also played at Sevilla, Reguilón will compete for minutes with Yannick Carrasco and Saúl Ñíguez at left wing-back if the move is confirmed. Several media report the deal is imminent, and it is said to be a simple loan with no option to buy.
The 25-year-old made a name for himself with Julen Lopetegui’s Sevilla before earning a move to Tottenham Hotspur under Jose Mourinho’s management. He played 67 times for the London club with nine assists, but he has fallen behind players like Ivan Perisić at left wing-back. The defender has not played yet this season.
