Starting XI:

Oblak

Rayo Vallecano struggled to break down the compact Atlético Madrid defense, meaning the Slovene had a quiet night between the sticks. He pushed the tempo with the ball in his hands, starting his side’s push forward. —6

Lodi

Frequently made himself available and showed great initiative on the left flank. He forced Luca Zidane into a good save in the first half before setting up Ángel Correa’s 53rd minute goal with a low cross. —7.5

Hermoso

The Spaniard had little trouble at the back. He positioned himself well alongside José Giménez and passed confidently to contribute to Atlético’s buildup. —6

Giménez

Similar to Hermoso, the Uruguayan did well to help his team keep its defensive shape. Received a yellow from a misplaced tackle that will keep him out of next weekend’s contest at Villarreal. —5.5

Trippier

A calm and focused performance from the right back. Connected well with Correa and Yannick Carrasco through patient passing and good off-ball movement. —7

Lemar

Lemar was called upon as the attacking focal point, especially in the first half. His dribbling and passing from a center-left position was precise, and he completed six dribbles in addition to a hockey assist on the second goal. —7.5

De Paul

Distributed the ball extremely well, specifically to Trippier and Renan Lodi out wide. Dribbled aggressively and featured prominently in the buildup to the first goal. —7.5

Kondogbia

Playing in his preferred position, the midfielder resisted Rayo’s press with excellent positioning, quick dribbling, and accurate passing. He won back the ball with well-placed tackles and shielded the vulnerable defense. —7

Carrasco

Played to his strengths, taking players on and searching for the boundary. Had moments of magic with the ball at his feet and lashed a shot off the woodwork in the second half. —7.5

Suárez

Won the ball back in good positions, pressing Rayo defenders on more than one occasion. Each instance led to chances at Zidane’s goal. Got a yellow for arguing with the referee, meaning he will miss the Villarreal game. —6

Correa

Scored twice in the match. His first goal came in the 28th minute, when the Argentine picked up the rebound from a Hermoso blocked shot and slotted the ball past Zidane. Correa doubled the lead in the 53rd minute, sprinting into the box and tapping home Lodi’s cross. —8
