Jan Oblak
Hardly troubled until Alexander Isak walloped a shot at him and stung his palms midway through the first half. It was the same result when Isak drove another, even better, effort at Oblak shortly after, and the Slovenian against saved it with his fingertips. Showed off more good reflexes when Portu drilled a shot into the ground, which Oblak tipped over. Couldn’t do anything for Igor Zubeldia’s 83rd minute goal — 8.
Kieran Trippier
Important in the first half as Atlético Madrid tried to make progress down the right. Subdued performance from the right-back, even more so when Real Sociedad started to improve late on — 6.
Stefan Savić
Another good display from Atlético’s man mountain. Good on and off the ball. Great block at a critical time from Jon Bautista to keep the score 2-0 — 7.
Felipe
Had some trouble with Isak in the early going, but stepped out a few times and prevented attacks. Atlético’s midfield did so well that they were rarely under much pressure. Sniffed out a dangerous Jon Guridi run later on — 7.
Mario Hermoso
Covered well for the marauding Carrasco. Not as ambitious as he normally might be with his passing, but didn’t need to be. Solid defensively. Showed off his cool late on with a couple passes out from the back despite being under serious pressure, and generated a key handball on Portu when la Real threatened to equalize — 7.

Yannick Carrasco
Continued his fine form with a 16th minute goal to ease Atlético’s nerves early on. Remains a bright spark down the left and has been one of Atlético’s best players during the run-in. The Belgian had another chance that he blazed wide, and he tucked in to defend when needed later in the game — 8.
Koke
A key player in Atlético’s press and he won the ball back a number of times applying pressure on the visiting players. The captain didn’t do anything extraordinary in his 500th game, but he controlled matters in the middle and provided lots of energy — the same thing he has done 499 other times in red and white — 8.
Marcos Llorente
Heavily involved in the early going and did well, should have squared to Suárez for a handy goal but he went alone and saw his effort saved. Made amends minutes later when he delivered a pass onto Carrasco’s toe to give Atlético the lead. An incredible athlete and an incredible player — 9.
Saúl Ñíguez
Much better from Saúl, who enjoyed the playing intensity. Made a couple lung-bursting runs that didn’t pay dividend, but looked more comfortable in the more expansive style. Taken off for the more defensive Kondogbia after 72 minutes. Encouraging display — 7.
Ángel Correa
A wonder finish for the eventual winning goal, as he slid the ball low and beyond Álex Remiro’s reach on 28 minutes. He made another couple chances and really enjoyed himself, given la Real’s propensity to play out from the back and leave spaces in behind their back line. Félix replaced him after 72 minutes. A good showing — 8.

Luis Suárez
Had chances early, one which he blazed over and another from a free that went just wide. Delightful, carefully-weighted pass to Correa for the second goal. Wasteful on more than one occasion and was lucky that the goals were scored earlier — or this would have been a very different story. Taken off after 80 minutes when it became apparent he was having one of those days — 6.
Substitutions
João Félix
Had 20 minutes to impress but Atlético were under the cosh when he came on, and he spent his time trying to block passing lanes — N/A.
Geoffrey Kondogbia
Got about the field as he slotted in beside Llorente at the base of midfield. Atlético were under serious pressure when he came on, and Kondogbia’s long limbs helped to make it difficult for Real Sociedad — N/A.
Renan Lodi
Not on long enough to make an impact — N/A.
