Atlético Madrid have announced João Félix has tested positive for COVID-19, and he is currently isolating at home according to LaLiga protocol.

The Portuguese is the third player in a week to test positive for COVID-19 at the club. Yannick Carrasco and Mario Hermoso missed the game against Cádiz at the weekend due to positive coronavirus tests, and they missed training on Wednesday also as they continue to isolate. Félix was not present at the session either after his positive test result.

Atlético’s next game is on Monday against Celta Vigo. The Portuguese attacker will miss the game at the Wanda Metropolitano as he will have to isolate for two weeks — or 10 days, if he submits a negative PCR test.

Félix has played in 25 games this season and most recently started against Cádiz at the weekend.

Spain is currently in the middle of another surge in cases with a seven-day rolling average of 25,000 positive test results.
