Kieran Trippier suffered a left shoulder injury after just five minutes during Atlético Madrid’s 3-3 draw against Valencia at Mestalla on Sunday afternoon.

Šime Vrsaljko replaced Trippier, and the England international looked to be in some discomfort as he was helped off the field.

The right-back chased a long ball down the line and got to it before Hélder Costa, who nudged him in the back. Trippier went down and stayed down before beckoning Atleti’s medical staff for help. A sling was applied to Trippier’s arm as he was helped off the field.

Prior to Sunday, Vrsaljko had only appeared in three games in LaLiga under Diego Simeone this season. His last appearance came against Alavés, a 16-minute cameo, back in September. Atlético have been hailed for their squad depth, but right-back is not an area where Simeone has options.

UPDATE: Trippier was transported to a local hospital and has a sprained AC joint.
