SD Huesca-Atlético Madrid: Notes, possible XI and how to watch LaLiga Santander 2020

How can Los Colchoneros top Sunday’s season-opening thrashing?

Diego Costa and Luis Suárez may start together as Atlético Madrid aim to follow up a brilliant beatdown of Granada with a second successive victory against new boys Huesca.

“Clearly they can play together, but you have to pick when and in what situation,” Diego Simeone said Tuesday. “The important thing is that the two of them give us all the fire they have.”

So far, so good. Though Costa could still leave before the transfer window shuts next week, he opened the scoring in Sunday’s romp at the Wanda before Suárez entered to cap it off with a 20-minute vendaval — assisting Atlético’s fourth goal before grabbing his side’s fifth and sixth goals.

“What we have always seen from Suárez are his movements closer to the penalty area, short movements, with a large presence close to goal and, above all, his link-up ability which brings more of the team into the play,” Simeone said.

The visit to Huesca marks Atlético’s second game in a week to begin the season and its third all-time against the side from Aragon. Los Rojiblancos took both meetings against Huesca with 3-0 scorelines during the 2018/19 season, which saw Wednesday’s hosts finish 20th. Former Rayo Vallecano skipper Míchel brought the team straight back up to LaLiga after guiding it to a first-place Segunda finish in 2019/20. LaLiga mainstay Dimitrios Siovas and former Girona star Pablo Maffeo arrived to reinforce the squad — not to mention forward Shinji Okazaki, a former Premier League winner at Leicester City. However, Huesca have yet to win upon its return to LaLiga, with two draws and one loss to this point.

Simeone is after his 200th managerial win in LaLiga, but it may not come easy given his team’s away form over the past three seasons. Not that that will matter a whole lot to Cholo.

“Whatever style wins matches is the best style in the world,” Simeone said.
