Starting XI

Oblak (7): Active and ready to collect on the many crosses Mallorca made into the box. He picked up a clean sheet, his 15th of the season, though he still lags behind Thibaut Courtois in the Zamora race.

Trippier (7.5): It was nice to see the Englishman rush up and down the field, continually looking for a lofted ball forward or a cross into the box. His delivery was just as consistent as it was before the restart. He completed 10 of his 12 long balls and led the team in touches.

Savić (6.5): Paired well with Giménez in the back. His 88 percent pass rate on 60 attempts helped the team maintain possession and march up the field.

Giménez (8): The Uruguayan was no-nonsense as usual. He had a commanding night with five clearances, four interceptions and two blocked shots.

Manu Sánchez (7.5): The 19-year-old academy product made a sizable impact in his third start of the season. He pressed up the left side frequently and made six tackles. Manu was able to poke balls into the box to create offensive opportunities multiple times and he contributed a key pass.

Carrasco (7.5): The Belgian has shown how his soft touch and deceptive dribbling add an exciting quality to this retooled Atlético Madrid. He made two key passes and a number of good runs up the field before Vitolo replaced him.

Saúl (6): He completed 42 of his 46 passes, but he made limited attacking contributions after scoring three times in the past two games.

Llorente (7.5): Consistently looked to bring the ball forward and create opportunities. He assisted Morata’s second goal with a low cross and finished the match with three key passes.

Koke (8): The captain hustled for every ball upon his return from suspension and hounded the opposition relentlessly when out of possession. His defensive efforts paid off in the 79th minute when his low, hard-hit volley took a deflection and landed in the back of the net.

João Félix (3): Played under an hour and missed some solid chances, including an open shot in the penalty area. His form has been subpar of late, could really use another goal to get himself going.

Morata (8.5): Hit a brace on the night. His first goal was a penalty that he retook — what was really impressive was that Morata had the confidence to put the ball down and try again. On his second goal, the forward did well to get in front of his defender and get his foot on Llorente’s buzzing low cross.

Subs

Correa (5): Came on for João Félix and was compelling going forward, especially in his passing.

Vitolo (3): Didn’t make the impact Carrasco made. Vitolo could track back when needed with his fresher legs and drew contact.

Lodi (5): Took Sánchez’s place and filled his shoes nicely. He hit the post with an angled attempt and defensive work helped keep the clean sheet.

Diego Costa (2): Had one shot and one yellow card in relief of Morata.

Thomas (N/A): Finished the last 10 minutes of the game and didn’t need to do much with his limited time.
