Rangers, Celtic interested in Atlético’s Riquelme

The 19-year-old’s contract expires later in 2020 and he is attracting interest from Scotland — among other places.

Rodrigo Riquelme has scored seven times and assisted six other goals this season between Atlético Madrid’s B team and the Youth League side. The 19-year-old is reaching a point in his Atlético career where he will have to make a decision on whether to continue growing within the ranks or try his hand elsewhere.

The star prospect’s contract expires this summer, and it has a €30 million release clause — a number which would be a starting point in any renewal talks. Marca explain that Atlético is the club he loves, but he has “seducers” from around Europe tracking his rise.

The Madrid daily says Riquelme has sparked a war in Scotland between Glasgow Rangers and their city rivals Celtic. Before any decision is made about leaving, however, he will hear out Atlético as to their intentions.

The versatile attacker is not just attracting interest in Scotland — sides in LaLiga are also keeping a close eye on contract talks, along with teams in the Netherlands, Germany and England.
