Atlético Madrid know they need further reinforcements to a rebuilding team. Last summer’s haul was decent, and the verdict is yet to be announced on some of their latest recruits, but the team lacks variety in several key positions. One area in particular where they lack a change of speed is midfield.
And that’s why they are already looking to the likes of Ivan Rakitić as a summer signing. The latest name to be mentioned, however, is Chilean international Charles Aranguiz. The midfielder’s agent has confirmed Atlético’s interest (among others) to FOX Sports.
“Atlético have called us,” he said. “But they haven’t made an offer.”
The 30-year-old’s contract with Bayer Leverkusen expires this summer, and thus he could sign for free. He has played with the German side since 2015, when he moved from Brazil’s Internacional. He has also played for Chile 78 times and rose to prominence playing, along with several teammates, under Jorge Sampaoli in the national team.
