Starting XI
Oblak — (9)
Came up big on more than one occasion. The man between the sticks ended the match with five saves and a punch. His heroics kept the clean sheet intact.
Trippier — (5)
Was not as active on the flank as usual. He couldn’t get many crosses in and lost the ball far too easily due to Celta Vigo’s pressure.
Savić — (4.5)
Although his passing from the back was solid, Savić had too many moments with sloppy tackling and positioning. The Montenegrin didn’t seem to be on the same wavelength with Mario Hermoso in the first half, which led to some big chances for the opposition.
Hermoso — (3.5)
Picked up a yellow in the opening 20 minutes and looked rusty as the half went on. When Hermoso shifted to left back, he was dribbled past too easily and lost the ball far too many times. A game the defender will look to forget.
Sánchez — (7)
The 20-year-old added life to the attack very early on with his runs up the left side. His efforts payed off with a crisp sixth-minute assist to Luis Suárez. He was subbed off in the second half after Diego Costa’s injury, but the academy left back’s showing was very positive.
Correa — (5)
Had trouble getting involved offensively. The Argentine’s touch looked heavy and his usual silky dribbling was nowhere to be found.
Torreira — (7.5)
The Arsenal-owned man looked very lively on his first 90 minutes for Atlético Madrid. He made five interceptions and added some hard tackles to his name. The Uruguayan seems to be just what Diego Simeone ordered.

Koke — (7)
Was instrumental in the first goal via his flicked, lofted ball over the defense to Sánchez. As time went on, Koke’s impact of the offense died down, but his passing and defensive work rate was needed very much toward game’s end.
Lemar — (7)
The France international was full of energy as he made a rare start on the left side. He kept things simple with the ball at his feet and added to the offense nicely with some dangerous free kicks.
Suárez — (7.5)
Slotted the ball away in the sixth minute to give Atlético the lead. Besides a few runs into the box, his impact died down as the match continued, but his early goal stood as the winner.
Costa — (4.5)
Played just over a half and was barely involved. Received a careless yellow for arguing and was subbed off for João Félix after picking up a muscular injury.
Subs
Felipe — (5)
Filled in at center back after Simeone shuffled the deck early in the second half. Had a few tackles and picked up a yellow card in the 71st minute.
Joāo Félix — (7)
Added energy to the offense when it was needed most. Did well to close out the match by slowing the game down near the corner flag. With just over a minute left, he attempted a shot that ricocheted off the woodwork to Carrasco.
Carrasco — (7.5)
Came on for Suárez and helped create a few chances. Iced the game with a header in stoppage time.
Llorente — (6.5)
Added some flair up top. Forced a late save out of Iván Villar after he received the ball and turned toward the net.
Herrera — (4)
Played a little over ten minutes. Hustled hard on both ends and picked up a yellow card with 85 minutes gone.
