Antoine Griezmann is set to join to Barcelona according to Atlético Madrid’s chief director Miguel Ángel Gil Marín.
“He is going to Barcelona,” said Gil Marín Wednesday night on Movistar. He further explained that he had known Griezmann’s destination since March.
This, at last, brings an end to a saga that was seemingly over last summer when Griezmann rejected Barcelona in a widely-mocked documentary. The World Cup winner said he would stay at Atlético and signed a massive new deal to 2023.
Then came the news that Griezmann had more doubts about his future under Diego Simeone. The club reportedly had to talk him out of releasing another documentary when he decided he wanted to leave this summer.
“I’m the first who wants my future decided,” the 28-year-old said while on France duty. “But you have to wait. I don’t know if I will continue in LaLiga, but in two weeks we will know something. I want to play football and enjoy myself.”
