Jan Oblak, GK: 8
Came up with his fourth straight clean sheet. Oblak came up with multiple saves from inside the box, including a terrific diving stop on Mikel Merino with 15 minutes to go.
Juanfran, RB: 7
The veteran right back looked well-rested and ready to go. He came up with some solid recoveries but could have distributed the ball better.
José Giménez, CB: 7
A rock once more. He came up with a staggering 11 clearances and three interceptions. His pace came up big at times when he needed to track back.
Diego Godín, CB: 7.5
A very solid performance for the captain. Godín prevented Real Sociedad multiple times from having any clear chances, particularly when Atlético Madrid went down to 10 men. On the offensive end, Godín grabbed an assist on Morata’s goal.
Filipe Luís, LB: 6
Filipe made the simple pass to avoid losing the ball but couldn’t wreak havoc with his crosses like we are used to seeing. Arias came on for him at the half.
Koke, RM: 5.5
Koke set up chances with his passing which was evident when played a perfect ball from a free kick to set up Morata’s second goal in the first half. However, Koke was dispossessed multiple times and looked frustrated. He picked up a red card in the second half after his second yellow.
Rodri, CM: 7
Rodri finished with 100 percent accuracy on 42 passes. Other than a 59th minute yellow, nearly flawless.
Saúl Ñíguez, CM: 6
Saúl looked like he tried to force plays at times with his passing. He gave up some unnecessary fouls (five in all) that led to free kicks to Real Sociedad and slowed momentum.
Thomas Lemar, LM: 7
Lemar played less than an hour but had an impact nonetheless. He passed the ball well from the flank and sent in crosses into the box, and not to mention he remains a silky-smooth dribbler.
Álvaro Morata, ST: 8.5
The Spaniard absolutely dominated the Real Sociedad back line. He used his height to his advantage by winning balls in the air at ease — and both his goals came with his head, from set pieces. His thumping headers and slick movement had the opposition wondering where he was at all times.
Antoine Griezmann, ST: 7
Griezmann was quiet on the offensive end only coming up with one shot. He did help with his one touch passing and willingness to get back on defense.
Subs:
Santiago Arias, RB: 7
Santi came on for Filipe Luís at the start of the second half. He was able to aid in keeping La Real’s attack at bay with his tackling.
Thomas Partey, CM: 5
Partey came on for Lemar in the 58th minute but couldn’t really make a huge impact on the match, though he did get fouled where he could to help bleed time.
Ángel Correa, ST: 5
Simeone took off Morata for Correa, and the Argentine did well to track back on defense with the limited time he had.
