Atlético Madrid have another chance to make up ground in the league title race as they visit Real Sociedad on Sunday night.

Barcelona and Real Madrid will do battle in El Clásico on Saturday night, and depending on that result — namely a win for Madrid — Atlético could sneak back into the title hunt, potentially just four points off top with 12 weeks still to play. However, they’ll have to contend with a Real Sociedad side that has not lost in 2019 and has gone 10 unbeaten under new coach Imañol Alguacil.

While Antoine Griezmann has enjoyed previous battles against his old team, historically they have not gone all that well for his current team. Atleti have been thumped at Anoeta the past two seasons and have just five wins over the past 20 encounters with La Real in the Basque Country.

Lucas Hernández remains sidelined for the visitors with a knee sprain, while Diego Costa and Nikola Kalinić were dropped from the matchday squad (the former is dealing with a muscular niggle). Diego Simeone seems set to hand the full back slots to his veterans and bring Thomas Lemar in after José Giménez slotted into midfield during the week’s training sessions.

Possible XI

Oblak; Juanfran, Giménez, Godín, Filipe Luís; Rodri, Saúl, Koke, Lemar; Griezmann, Morata.

Predicted scoreline

Real Sociedad 1-1 Atlético Madrid.
