Thibaut Courtois played 154 times for Atlético Madrid on loan from Chelsea from 2011 until 2014. He won a league title, a Copa del Rey, a Europa League and a European Super Cup during his spell with the rojiblancos.
He did the unthinkable, however, when he moved from Chelsea to Real Madrid during the summer of 2019 and subsequently said that “I’ve come to a club that I’ve always wanted to play for. I’ve never kissed the badge before, but I have today.”
Atlético Madrid fans subsequently destroyed his plaque outside the Wanda Metropolitano ahead of the Madrid derby in which he starts.
He says he will feel extra motivation if the fans abuse him and throw things. The atmosphere should be tense at the ground especially when the likes of Courtois gets the ball.
