Diego Simeone will remain in charge of Atlético Madrid until 2022 after signing a new contract with the club. “We are looking to the future with a lot of hope, but with a lot of challenges. And as always, thinking about game by game,” he says in the video to announce his renewal.
His previous contract ended in 2020. Previously, he signed a new deal until 2020 but shortened it until 2018 in what was considered a strange move.
“We’ve decided this situation along with the club’s directors and it does not mean we will not renew again when the contract ends,” he said at a news conference back in 2016 when the news was announced.
”We continue to show what we feel for the club. It doesn’t bother me that people speculate about my future but the fact I’m here is because I want to be here,” added Simeone.
He resigned until 2020 but will stay until 2022 with his new deal.
