Atlético Madrid have announced the signing of Álvaro Morata from Chelsea on a one and a half year loan deal until the summer of 2020.
The former Real Madrid striker signs with Atlético having left the rojiblancos’ academy as a kid to return to Getafe where he grew up.
The 26-year-old passed his medical at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra on Sunday and will join his teammates with Real Betis and Real Madrid to come in LaLiga in the next two weeks.
Atlético fans protested the signing of the player due to his links with Real Madrid and waved a banner at the Getafe game saying “less Morata and more Borja Garces [a young academy striker coming through the ranks]”
Diego Simeone said he appreciated the fans protests and them having a voice but says the club are trying to bring in the best player possible to help them compete.
Diego Costa is still out injured but returned to action by kicking a football recently despite not wearing his boots yet after surgery on his foot.
Morata will provide competition in attack for an attack that has stuttered at times this season.
