Natalia Simeone, Diego Simeone’s agent and sister, says it is “a matter of time” before her brother takes over at Inter Milan. Cholo has a contract with Atlético Madrid until 2020 and has harboured ambitions to return to Italy for years in order to manage one of his former club.
“Sooner or later, he’ll end up at Inter,” Natalia told La Gazzetta dello Sport via ESPNFC. “I think it is only a matter of time.
”He loves the club, the atmosphere and living in Milan. Inter is a side he would really love to coach. I should point out that he is also still very fond of Lazio, too.”
Simeone played for Inter from 1996 until 1999 and played in 85 games for the Serie A side. He won the UEFA Cup with the nerazzurri in 1997. Cholo also suited up for Lazio between 1999 and 2003, where he won four trophies — including a league/cup double in 2000.
The Argentina job is another one that Simeone will eventually take too, according to his father. He did say, however, that it won’t be for a while.
“We know that at some point he will give to the national team,” Carlos Simeone said. “He always had respect for Argentina and made an effort to play. He has it in his head to do it.”
At 48, Simeone has plenty of years ahead of him as a manager, and he already has two jobs he feels confident of landing when the time is right. For now, however, it’s Atlético’s Champions League push this season.
