Starting XI
Oblak (8): Oblak had another solid outing in net against Real Betis. He made four saves and his quick reactions kept the scores level. Stayed on track for another Zamora Trophy.
Juanfran (6.5): Juanfran created one big chance with a nice cross into Fernando Torres’ path — his shot was cleared off the line. The veteran played a decent game and was able to have some more freedom up and down the flank.
Savić (6): Savić came up with six interceptions and made three tackles. His distribution stunk — just 59 percent pass completion — and his lack of positional nous led to some nervy moments with Betis’ long possession spells.
Giménez (7): The Uruguay international was all over the pitch and made five clearances with two tackles. He made a couple mistakes with the ball at his feet, but won all seven of his headers.
Lucas (7.5): Lucas’ positional play stood out because he knew where to be at all times and show for a pass out wide — as well as try and send in some crosses into the middle.
Gabi (7.5): Although aging, Gabi showed that he still is a class player on his. He set the tempo early on with Koke on the bench, and his five key passes led all players. The captain can still perform in these kinds of games.
Thomas (7): The Ghanaian complemented Gabi well. While Gabi could dish out long balls and set the tempo, Thomas disrupted the opposition with immediate pressure on the ball.
Saúl (7): Saúl played out of position but put in a strong shift anyway because he’s amazing. He was unlucky not to score, with a rocket of a shot slamming off the crossbar in the second half. It would have been a great goal.
Correa (5.5): Correa was quick with the ball and unafraid to take people on, although his decision-making still requires lots of work. He had a very nice one-two combo with Vitolo in the Betis box but Vitolo could not find the back of the net from his cross.
Vitolo (7): Vitolo had some nice moments in the match and is becoming more fully acclimated to his teammates, but he did miss a great chance from a Correa cross. He was free inside the box but fluffed the shot.
Torres (8): El Niño had a chance early in the first half that was saved off the line. He showed that he still has some left in the tank when given the chance, and this was a productive 90 minutes from him.
Subs:
Griezmann (6): Griezmann played 27 minutes but didn’t touch the ball nearly enough to really make an impact.
Koke (6): Similar to Griezmann, Koke could not have a real impact in the match other than a few crosses.
Vrsaljko (6.5): Vrsaljko was subbed on in the 65th minute for Juanfran and immediately looked to get to the corner and cross — with varying accuracy.
