It is back to LaLiga for Atlético Madrid on Saturday as Diego Simeone’s men kick off the second half of the season against Girona.
For Atlético, this is a chance to secure a much-needed win following Wednesday’s late Copa del Rey collapse against Sevilla. Two defensive errors allowed the Andalusians to pick up a 2-1 win heading back to the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán next week, and los colchoneros will need some inspiration if they hope to overturn that deficit.

As for Saturday, though, the Diego Costa-Antoine Griezmann pairing will look to continue developing their chemistry against an organized but occasionally vulnerable Girona defense. Diego Godín (yellow card accumulation) and Filipe Luís (injury) will be replaced in the XI by José Giménez and Lucas Hernández.
What’s more, Atlético will not have to deal with one of LaLiga’s most lethal marksmen on Saturday. Cristhian Stuani and his 10 goals will miss out due to a head injury sustained last week against Las Palmas last week. Stuani scored twice in the first meeting between these two back in August. We’ll see what impact his absence will have on the Catalans, who have been the most surprising team of the season to this point.
Possible XI
Oblak; Vrsaljko, Savić, Giménez, Lucas; Thomas, Saúl, Correa, Koke; Griezmann, Costa.
Predicted scoreline
Atlético Madrid 1-1 Girona.
