Atlético try out new-look attacking lineup ahead of Sevilla

Diego Costa and Vitolo slot into a very attacking-minded XI at training on Monday afternoon.

Sevilla are not in the hottest form at the moment and Atlético Madrid are looking to compound their woes when they meet Vincenzo Montella’s men in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday night at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Diego Costa was suspended for the trip to Eibar but returns in what is Atlético’s first real test in the Copa and Diego Simeone tried out a new XI training on Monday.

Moyá; Juanfran, Savic, Godín, Lucas; Koke, Gabi, Saúl, Vitolo; Griezmann, Diego Costa.

It looks like a dynamic 4-4-2 in defence and a 4-3-3 in attack with the defence and goalkeepers as you might expect. Gabi would be the deepest midfielder with Saúl and Koke alternating as they go forward and Vitolo on the left.

Then what you have is Antoine Griezmann coming in from the right as a second striker or inside forward or whatever it is that they call that position.

Sevilla will be the guinea pigs on Thursday in the Copa del Rey, as I said, and it will be fascinating to see how they adapt to their roles. This is the side Simeone has wanted for a very long time and now that he has it, we will see if both he and the players can make it work.
