Costa follow-up and silly rumors.

  • Costa would only play for Atlético

Not too much news to report this morning with Atlético Madrid coming off perhaps their biggest win of the young season so far. However, there are a few minor things to look at, including a report from Bleacher Report (citing Marca) that claims Everton were prepared to pay upward of €75 million for Diego Costa’s services.

While Everton’s interest in the player is not new news, it is interesting to see the extent of their interest and—more importantly for us—the extent of Costa’s lack of interest in playing for anyone but Atlético. It is nice to see world-class talent viewing Atlético as a destination club. It will be exciting to see a motivated Costa take the pitch in January, with at least a few more solid years in his prime to look forward to.

  • Griezmann rumor mongering

With the Costa situation settled, the new hot topic for the tabloids is the future of fellow striker Antoine Griezmann. The latest pap to roll off the presses suggests that the other Madrid team is “desperate” to sign the French forward, and will go so far as to sell Gareth Bale to fund the transfer.

File this one under “silly.”
