Atlético Madrid continued their strong form by gaining a huge three points at the Wanda Metopolitano on Saturday agains Sevilla. Yannick Carrasco and Antoine Griezmann provided the goals that saw Atlético climb to second in the league table.
Not only did Atlético get the win, but it was a special day for Gabi as well. The captain played his 400th game in LaLiga on Saturday, 268 of them with Atleti. He, among others, spoke to the media after the final whistle.
Gabi
On playing his 400th match in LaLiga:
"I’m very happy. These are statistics that I think I’ll value more when I quit playing football. Now, I have to continue playing matches and helping the team, which is what I care about."
Diego Simeone
On the great start to the season:
"The team interpreted well what was needed in this start to LaLiga, [with] many games away from home -- at Valencia, in Bilbao. And then at home with these fans, when they get more attached to this stadium it will be tremendous. It seems like a Roman circus.
“I am very excited. It was better today, we are still getting used to the stadium, but we hope every day is better."
On the upcoming match vs. Chelsea:
"We have been looking forward to the Chelsea game, they are a team full of extraordinary players. We will see what the team needs for this game. Each game is different and we can choose players who can make the difference."
On Diego Costa’s return:
"Diego’s arrival makes us very happy that a player of his status wants to come to Atlético. There are still steps to make it official, steps that do not depend on us."
Lucas Hernández
On the intra-squad competition:
“We are on the right path, training well, and the competition is healthy. We have to continue like that, to not give up and stay as we are.”
Filipe Luís
On Atlético’s strong form and the value of continuity:
“The team is very confident, the players know each other well. We know our movements perfectly because we have played a long time together.”
