  • In case you missed it: Costa happened!

After months of speculation, Atlético Madrid and Chelsea finally agreed to terms on Diego Costa’s transfer. Though he cannot play for the team until January, Costa is expected to join and begin training with the group in the coming days. You can check out Rob’s full write up here.

Though many Atlético players have expressed their excitement over Costa’s return to the team, perhaps the most interesting is Antoine Griezmann. Though he has long been connected with a move to Manchester United, Griezmann’s enthusiasm for Costa’s return is clear.

Could this reunion convince the frenchman to stick with Atlético for the long term? If so, there is some serious value added to the record fee the club paid for Costa.

Now I just need to figure out what I’m going to write about for the next couple months...

  • Copa del Rey is rounding into shape

With the third round of Copa del Rey fixtures finishing up yesterday, it is finally time for Atlético to enter the competition in the round of 32. The draw will take place on Sept. 28, and the possible opponents for Atlético has been narrowed down to 7, all from Segunda División B: FC Cartagena, Elche CF, SD Formentera, CF Fuenlabrada, Lleida Esportíu, Real Murcia, and SD Ponferradina.

The Round of 32 schedule is a bit different this year, a RFEF has pushed the final back to April after moving it forward to May for the past few seasons. The first leg of these ties is just over a month away on Oct. 25, with the return leg taking place on Nov. 29.
