- Diego Costa Watch 2K17: Loyalty, loyalty, loyalty...
ESPN, citing Marca, report that Atlético Madrid have submitted a final, “take-it-or-leave-it” offer for Diego Costa. The deal would be a record for the club and comes in at €55 million plus add-ons. We’ve been down this road before of course, and any “final” offer should be viewed as “final until January”, when all bets are off.
Further reports suggest that “the only thing” holding up negotiations is the matter of loyalty payments that are presumably owed to Costa. Chelsea obviously don’t want to pay him and Atlético don’t want to pick up the tab.
Great. See you all same time next week!
- Juventus in for Oblak?
Though he’s been a brick wall for what seems like forever, the reality is that Juventus’ star goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon will soon be on the wrong side of 40. With the inevitable decline that comes with age in mind, AS’ front page Tuesday claims that the Italian champions have reportedly set their sights on Jan Oblak.
Oblak, 24, is becoming one of the keepers in world football and we should expect a lot of interest in him going forward. Paris Saint-Germain have also made their interest in the player clear and it wouldn’t be surprising to see other top clubs come in for the Slovene’s services next summer.
For his part, Oblak has been noncommittal about his future beyond the current season. He has a contract to 2021 with a €100m release clause. This is definitely one to monitor closely going forward.
