Atlético bought the Colombian U23 international from Colombian side Deportivo Calí 2015. After two loan spells - one back at Deportivo Calí and another at Villarreal last season - Atleti have decided to part ways with the young forward. River Plate are said to have purchased 50 percent of the player’s rights and signed him to a four-year contract.
With such attacking depth in the team, Borré never made an appearance for Atlético. The 21-year-old made 30 appearances in all competitions at Villarreal in 2016/17 and scored four goals with two assists.
Hopefully, a move to one of Argentina’s giants will help jumpstart the promising forward’s career. River Plate were runners-up in the Primera División behind Boca Juniors last season, and Borré will be given many more chances to impress back in South America. Diego Simeone is making changes to his squad after seeing players and their quality during preseason. Selling Borré, who was not going to get much playing time this season, is a smart move - even if it’s for a small fee.
Best of luck in your new adventure, Rafael!
