Storms in Madrid yesterday caused flooding in the Wanda Metropolitano. The video in this report from AS shows water flowing freely under the seats in the ground’s upper sections.

While the roof is in place at this time, it is unclear if drainage systems have been fully installed. Hopefully this is just a matter of some incomplete work, rather than a structural or functional issue with the construction.

Either way, this is not a good look with the first home match just under three weeks away.

  • Possible extension in the works for Diego Simeone

AS are also reporting that a possible contract extension is being developed for manager Diego Simeone. The extension would see an additional two years added to his current one-year contract, and would make him the manager of Atlético Madrid until the end of the 2019/20 season.

As we noted yesterday, Simeone notched his 200th win for los rojiblancos this past weekend and his sides have emerged victorious in nearly two-thirds of the matches played during his tenure.

Given the consistency of his time in charge and the emergence of a youth movement in the current squad, this could be an ideal time to lock up Simeone for a little while longer.
