All roads lead to Atlético Madrid for Diego Costa: what we know

It looks very much like Costa will get his move back to Atlético this summer.

According to a report in AS today, Diego Costa has one thing on his mind: wearing Atlético Madrid’s colours in 2017-18. Diego Simeone is pushing hard for Costa’s signature, as he tops the Argentine’s list of targets with Sevilla winger Vitolo another name mentioned. The club is working to keeping the manager happy with reinforcements that will coincide with the move to the Wanda Metropolitano on the outskirts of Madrid.

Costa and Atlético were made for each other and have been flirting with each other almost since he left for Chelsea three years ago. The Spanish striker did well in London but he was always, it seems, itching for a move back to Madrid.

Simeone and Costa have remained close and posted pictures to Instagram having dinner. Costa has made no secret of his desire to return to Atlético and when Antonio Conte sent him a message telling him he wasn't in his plans next season, Costa moved quick to throw his name into the mix as a possible Atleti arrival.

The 28-year-old is keen to play in the World Cup next season but is reportedly willing to train with the first team until he can be registered on Jan. 2, 2018.

Medical on Tuesday?

According to this tweet, a player from London will have a medical in Madrid on Tuesday before signing with Atletico. They won't name the hospital and don't name the player, but the suggestion is that it's Diego Costa.

Chelsea revealed their new kit on Saturday morning and Costa was absent from the photoshoot.

With that in mind, it’s hard to conclude anything other than all roads point to an Atlético - Costa reunion. Now, it's just a matter of what he'll do with the six months he will have to kill.
