Goodnight, sweet prince.

Alessio Cerci has departed Atlético Madrid, according to an official announcement on the club’s website.

The decision to rescind the Italian’s contract was mutual, and Cerci at last ends a most unhappy spell in the Spanish capital. The 29-year-old was signed from Torino in August 2014 but made just seven appearances in LaLiga for Atlético. He was loaned to AC Milan in January 2015 as part of the deal that brought Fernando Torres back to Atleti, and he spent the second half of the 2015-16 season at Genoa.

Cerci returned to Atlético for the 2016-17 season after failing a medical for Bologna. He made just two appearances last season, one each in the Copa del Rey (Guijuelo) and LaLiga (Osasuna). However, he received praise from Diego Simeone for his hard work and good attitude (both of which he lacked during his first months at the club).

We wish it would have worked out better for Cerci, who was once a very exciting, dynamic winger. Hopefully, he can rebuild his career somewhere else.
