According to a report in El Confidencial, Spain’s Hacienda will investigate Real Madrid midfielder James Rodríguez, Atlético Madrid left back Filipe Luís and former Atlético forwards Diego Costa and Jackson Martínez as more Jorge Mendes clients fall under the spotlight.
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have allegedly fallen foul of the tax man and Jose Mourinho was thrown into the mix recently too.
The situation is similar to that of Messi and Ronaldo with companies set up unbeknownst to the Hacienda. Mendes says he would not know how to set up a framework that allowed players to dodge tax even if he wanted to.
At least one player in Atlético’s sphere - Filipe - could be impacted by the revelations, as could Costa should he return this summer. Jackson is still playing for Guangzhou Evergrande in China but has been linked with a return to Europe.
More on the situation surrounding these players as it develops.
