Atlético Madrid players have been tweeting and speaking about a possible comeback against Real Madrid in the Champions League since last Tuesday’s crushing 3-0 defeat at the Santiago Bernabéu. The club has taken to sending inspiring tweets with the hashtag #NoLoPuedenEntender (“they can not understand”) - perhaps as a coping mechanism, perhaps as a preface to a truly famous night - during the run-in to Wednesday’s second leg at the Vicente Calderón.
Antoine Griezmann is the latest to express his belief in a remontada, and he did so by tweeting a 140-second video containing clips of sprinter Usain Bolt, Super Bowl LI, the 2016 NBA Finals and Atlético’s 4-0 win over Real Madrid during the 2014-15 LaLiga season.

Bolt recovered from a false start at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu to dominate the track once again. The New England Patriots rallied from a 25-point deficit to beat the Atlanta Falcons in last year’s Super Bowl, and the Cleveland Cavaliers fought back from a 3-1 series deficit to win last year’s NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors. And of course, a repeat of the famous 4-0 derbi result from February 2015 would see Atlético advance to next month’s Champions League final.
The odds may seem impossible, but Diego Simeone and his players have shown no regard for the odds. It seems they are inspired and believe firmly in an historic comeback.
Do you?
