They were hammered by Borussia Dortmund on Saturday 6-2 and the club have decided to move on with the likelihood of a Champions League looming after the 4-2 win for Atletico at the BayArena in the first leg.
Bayer have lost four of their last six league games and the club’s decision to sack Schmidt comes after three years at the helm for the German. They are yet to announce a replacement with a couple of names tentatively thrown into the ring.
