Diego Simeone manages his 300th game for Atletico Madrid and it comes against an old foe in Barcelona and Luis Enrique. He has a poor record against Barca and has only won twice in 20 games. He does, however, welcome Enrique and co. to a time where all is not well at the club. They are 4-0 down to PSG in the Champions League last 16 tie with the second leg to come, and they just squeezed by Leganés last weekend at home with a visibly annoyed Messi landing the winning penalty.
Simeone can also count on Diego Godin and Jan Oblak to make sure the threat of the MSN is minimised when the sides meet on Sunday afternoon. Barcelona have still not figured out their right-back position and given it was Sergi Roberto who allowed Leganés in for the equaliser last weekend, Luis Enrique must surely be pondering his options ahead of a revitalised Atletico. Andre Gomes was booed by his own fans and had abuse hurled at him driving to training after the PSG defeat. It seems that all is certainly not well at the club with Luis Enrique also dividing fans on his tactics and overall ability to lead the team.
Kevin Gameiro was sensational against Bayer, which makes it two in two for the striker after his lightening fast hat-trick against Sporting Gijon the week before. Fernando Torres came off the bench and scored a crucial goal in the Champions League too and it seems ANnoine Griezmann has put his poor spell around Christmas behind him. He is linking up well with his fellow attackers and Carrasco, who can blow hot and cold, tends to like playing in big games.
