Atlético confirm Griezmann injury at Chelsea

It’s not serious, but the Frenchman will miss time.

Atlético Madrid suffered a double blow in London on Tuesday night. Not only did their 1-1 draw at Chelsea eliminate them from the Champions League, but Diego Simeone’s men also saw their talisman injured.

Antoine Griezmann completed a so-so 90 minutes at Stamford Bridge, and we may now know why. Atlético confirmed Wednesday that Griezmann ended the match with discomfort in his right hamstring. Pending more tests and a final evaluation, it seems certain that the attacker will miss a potentially tricky trip to Real Betis this weekend, and he may even miss the following week’s home clash with Alavés.

This is far from the end of the world as it looks like a minor injury, but Griezmann is central to an Atlético attack that has been starved for goals at several points this season. What’s more, Atleti have played well since the last international break in November, and the Frenchman’s absence could disrupt a good run of form for the side. Hopefully Simeone will not need him to defeat a vulnerable Betis or an Alavés in the drop zone.
