Atlético Madrid secured three points against Real Sociedad at the Wanda Metropolitano to kickstart a winning weekend for the club. Atlético were the only side in the top four to win on matchday 14, as Barcelona and Real Madrid dropped points and Valencia lost at Getafe. Atleti are now six points behind the Catalans and just one behind los Che for second place.

Diego Simeone and the boys gave their thoughts on the comeback win.

Diego Simeone

On the match:

“Our energy has been renewed and this allows us to keep growing. More than just having several goal scoring opportunities — they [Real Sociedad] did as well — we never gave up. We found Saúl, where we knew he could create danger, and then the epic last minute goal happened.”

"We are happy to have come through a difficult match, it was a struggle. In the second half, after some mistakes [in the first half], we showed determination."

On the team’s improvement:

“It’s obvious the team is improving and growing. The team’s intensity is constant and our play improves when we score. Goals have an energy that’s indescribable.”

On the league table:

“The championship is very long. Now we must think about what we have to do in London. In LaLiga, we can't afford to look beyond the next match.”

Saúl Ñíguez

On the match and the important win:

“It was an important match for us and we wanted to win. When the team is in its worst situations that’s when we’re most united, working our hardest and giving our all. In the difficult situations is when we’re most united and we managed to turn the situation around.

“When we think one match at a time, things go well.”

Filipe Luís

On the slow start to the game:

"It was a very difficult game, but we knew this from watching the videos prior to kick-off.

"They played very well and they have clear ideas, but we started the match very poorly.

"We have to be proactive, we can't go out to draw matches.”

On the team’s improvement:

“Once again, the team showed that we’re improving in great form and that we never give up. Even if a player lost a ball, in the next play he’d try again. That’s the most important thing, that nobody loses confidence. The team is getting better and better.”

On being fit and staying away from injury:

"I'm very happy, I have already injured myself three times, I want to forget that. I need to take my form, be physically strong and feel good about helping the team.”

On the upcoming match against Chelsea:

"It's a very complicated game. We don't depend on ourselves, but in football anything can happen.

"We must never stop believing."
