Luciano Vietto is close to moving on loan to Sporting Club de Portugal after struggling through two and a half years under Diego Simeone. He failed to win over the Argentine despite having worked with him earlier in the decade at Racing Club in his native country.
Pablo Podestá, the former president of Racing de Avellaneda, spoke about Vietto and explained why he thinks he never made it at Atlético.
“He is very good when it comes to making decisions and dribbling but he is not very strong physically,” Podestá said. “He is intelligent and understands the game, is skilful and has excellent technique but when he has a player in front of him, he finds it very difficult to free himself of him.”
The former president went on to say he has “some problems in terms of his character and personality,” which makes sense seeing as Simeone sent him out on loan and has barely relied on him this season either. “Probably, because of this, he hasn’t been used much by Simeone at Atlético Madrid.”
