Atlético Madrid are no longer unbeaten in LaLiga following a 1-0 loss at Espanyol on Friday, a result that will leave a bitter taste in los rojiblancos’ mouths as we reach the winter break.
Diego Simeone, along with Koke and Thomas, were once again looking for the glass half-full perspective after the match.
Diego Simeone
On the match:
“You could tell that one mistake would decide the match. We played with lots of intensity, committed an error and lost the match.”
“It was a tough match, Espanyol were very organised. Both teams had chances, but they converted theirs. They played a very good, tactical game...it always seemed like the team who took the first chance would take the points.”
On the first loss of the league campaign:
“The first part of our season has been very good.”
“Hopefully we won't lose again for another 20 games, we now must keep working. After going 20 matches without losing, you learn from it [this loss].”
Koke
His view on the match:
“It was an even match. They defended very well and played a really tactical match. So did we, but we couldn't take advantage of the chances we had.”
On the matches ahead:
“We have to learn from our mistakes to be as strong as possible on January 3 for our Copa match (at Lleida).”
Thomas Partey
On the mood of the dressing room following a first away defeat:
“It’s a shame because we started well but ended poorly. We have to think now of January and starting the new year [right].”
On Atlético failing to take chances:
“It was a tight game. [Kévin Gameiro] had the chance but could not finish it. They had the last chance and scored.
“We have to forget about this and think about January.”
