The Antoine Griezmann sweepstakes are heating up. You’d be hard pressed to find anyone in the world of football, rojiblanco fan or not, that would make a case that he is staying at that Atletico Madrid. It seems he knows it, the club know it and Europe’s biggest teams know it too.

Barcelona are the latest to be linked heavily with Griezmann along with long-time admirers Manchester United, who were close to signing the player last summer. Barcelona, however, might just be ready to pip the Premier League club to the €100 million signing, according to The Independent as their interest cools and Barcelona’s heats up.

The Catalan club have fought long and hard for Phillippe Coutinho and might be ready to throw in the towel on that chase in favour of the Frenchman. In the same Independent report, they say that Barca are “very far ahead” of United in the race for Griezmann as they start to put together a list of players they want to sign for next season.

They have the money and a Neymar-shaped hole in the team and Griezmann might be the antidote to their creative problems in attack.
