Atlético Madrid crashed unceremoniously out of the Champions League with draws against Qarabag (2), Chelsea and AS Roma sealing their fate in the competition with a loss to the Londoners at the Wanda not helping either. There was a brief glimmer of hope in the final matchday but Roma needed to fall to the Azerbaijan side at home, which didn’t happen.

For the first time during Diego Simeone’s reign, Atlético have been dumped into the Europa League and they will play Denmark’s FC Copenhagen in the Round of 32.

Copenhagen finished second in their group with nine point. Their group included Lokomotiv Moscow, who finished top, along with FC Sheriff and FC Zlin.
