  • Antoine Griezmann may have outworn his welcome with teammates.

A report from TEAMtalk yesterday — citing the infamous Don Balon — suggests that Atlético Madrid’s veteran leadership has begun to take umbrage with Antoine Griezmann’s attitude. The article names Gabi, Juanfran and Diego Godín, but regardless of its veracity, expect to see more reports in this vein as we get closer to the Nov. 18 Madrid Derby. Logically, it follows that frustration is starting to boil up in the locker room considering Griezmann hasn’t scored since Sept. 27 and the team just beat Deportivo La Coruña without him on the pitch. The Frenchman’s departure for greener pastures is starting to seem like a blessing.

Also, since a picture is worth 1000 words, I’ll just leave this here:

  • Not just Griezmann, however

Not to do an immediate 180 and play the other side, but Marca point out that it is not just Griezmann struggling at this point in the season. Other stars, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suárez, are experiencing droughts of their own this season.

Goal droughts happen to the best of them, and certainly Griezmann has done enough in his time with Atlético to earn the benefit of the doubt in terms of form. But it is the attitude issue that has started to raise questions in Madrid.

  • Club legend passes away

Sadly, the club announced the passing of club legend Feliciano Rivilla on Monday. Rivilla made 244 appearances for Atleti as a full back between 1954 and 1968. He also notched 26 caps with Spain in the early 60’s. Our thoughts and well wishes are with his family.
