Atlético Madrid finally pulled out a win after a disappointing couple of weeks. Thomas Partey put the team on his shoulders and did the thing to notch three points for los rojiblancos. You can tell from the comments below that this win came as a relief and was very much needed for the players.
On the match:
“It was a committed team working together. It was a tough match and the team responded well to its needs. We were always in the match and that’s what gave us the chance to win it.”
On the 91st minute winner:
“I loved the team’s hard work. We won thanks to a set piece play, something that we especially like. Thomas hit it very well.
"What gave us the chance to win the game was staying in it until the last minute. Until the final minute it was clear that a chance would come.”
On still being undefeated in LaLiga:
“We have three more points at this point compared to last year. [The] only points Valencia have dropped at home were to us. [The] only points Barcelona have dropped were to us, too. If we have 23 points, and [Antoine] Griezmann has just scored two goals, that is a good sign."
On the Griezmann substitution:
"I wanted to strengthen the team [with the substitution]. [Deportivo] were almost playing with four forwards and our team was starting to break up. I thought that by strengthening the centre we would have a better chance. It went as I had hoped."
On the match:
“It was a difficult match. We knew how to suffer and [still] defend well. We’re happy to have gotten the three points.”
On his fourth goal of the season:
“I’m doing well and I’m happy with my hard work. I’m going to keep fighting in order to be able to play more.”
