Atlético Madrid need to get some good feelings back before the upcoming international break, and they’ll be looking to walk away with a positive result at Riazor on Saturday.
While a terrible midweek result against Qarabag essentially condemned Atlético to Champions League elimination, last week’s 1-1 draw against Villarreal kept los colchoneros fourth in LaLiga and tied with their neighbors Real Madrid on points. Atleti still haven’t lost in league play and bring a 17-game domestic unbeaten run away to Galicia.
In recent history, Deportivo La Coruña have often given Atleti a difficult game. Last season, Diego Simeone’s side just shaded a 1-0 home win and were held to a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture — which saw Fernando Torres sustain a traumatic head injury.
Simeone will be without his creative midfielder Koke, his explosive winger Yannick Carrasco and his trusty left-back Filipe Luis, but that shouldn’t stop his men from grinding out a result the team needs here after a string of poor results.
