  • Gabi set to renew for one year

Atlético Madrid captain Gabi is set to extend his contract in the coming days, per a report from AS. It is the policy of the club to extend players over 30 on a year-to-year basis and Gabi, 34, has certainly shown that he is worth the continued investment despite seeing less of the pitch this season.

  • Diego Godín reaches appearances milestone

With this weekend’s match against Celta Vigo, defender Diego Godín has drawn level with Luis Amaranto Perea for the club record in appearances for foreign-born players. Sunday’s win marked Godín’s 314th appearance in red and white, and the 31-year-old should hold the record comfortably by the time he decides to hang up his boots.

  • Atlético in for Everton striker?

Recent reports suggest that Atlético may be interested in Nigerian striker Henry Onyekuru. The 20-year-old recently signed for Everton but was immediately sent on loan to Belgian side Anderlecht, where he has promptly set the world on fire with six strikes in nine matches. Juventus are also reportedly on the exciting youngster’s trail, so Atleti may need to act decisively to add him to their ranks.

  • Giménez on the move?

Speaking of Juventus, the Italian giants are also being linked, along with Manchester United, with defender José Giménez. Calciomercato’s report says Giménez has a contract to 2021 (which is incorrect — his contract expires next summer) with a buyout clause of €65 million. What they get right though is that the 22-year-old has struggled to find consistent minutes despite his immense potential. With this in mind, it may not be surprising to see him agitate for a move to a club that can offer more quality minutes.
