Predicting Atlético’s line-up versus Celta Vigo

Diego Simeone’s men need a win more than ever to get them back on track

Atlético Madrid head north to Galicia where they play Celta Vigo on Sunday at 16.15 CEST. Following a draw with Barcelona, a trip to Azerbaijan with a similar result has forced the players and management to answer some uncomfortable questions about their form.

It was their third draw in a row and fourth game without a win. They now sit dangerously close to elimination from the Champions League, which would be the first time under Diego Simeone.

After a win over Athletic Bilbao and another against Sevilla, Atlético seemed to be moving in the right direction but that has all come undone in a matter of weeks. Simeone looks like he will have to make do with Koke and Yannick Carrasco as he reverts to a more attacking 4-3-3 for the trip to Balaídos.

They have had their way with Celta Vigo in recent years but with Simeone’s main man out in Koke, he needs to find that control and balance he offers one way or another. As usual, Simeone trained with the side one last time before heading to Vigo and here is the line-up he is expected to go with.

Expected line-up for Celta Vigo: Oblak; Juanfran, Savic, Godín y Lucas; Gabi, Saul, Thomas, Correa, Griezmann, Gameiro.
