Pep Guardiola is believed to be interested in singing Lucas Hernandez from Atletico Madrid, according to Ian Herbert from the Independent.

A report recently suggested Guardiola was interested in Lucas, and his brother Theo, who is currently on loan at Alaves and having an excellent season to boot. The report by Herbert alludes to this, saying “The Atletico president Miguel Angel Gil Marin recently claimed that City made offers this summer for both Hernandez and his 19-year-old left back brother Theo.”

Gil Marin also said that their buy-out clauses were manageable for City, it would suggest that Atletico may not be able to do much about City’s advances provided Lucas wants to leave the club he joined when he was just 12 years old.

The 20-year-old made his debut last February in the league against Eibar in a game that Atletico Madrid won 3-1. He was deployed at left-back then but slowly gained the trust of Simeone, who is notoriously hard to convince.

Lucas has since been a solid option at both centre-half and left-back for Atletico and has an excellent ability to play the ball with his feet as well as defend in a traditional sense. As much as it hurts to say, Hernandez would be a perfect signing for Pep, who could partner him with John Stones or play him at the full-back spot with an eye on venturing forward.
