It was just two weeks ago that Atletico were trying to get back on track after a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Villarreal when they welcomed Las Palmas to the Vicente Calderon. They managed to squeeze past their opponents through Saul Niguez’ wonderful strike but they face a tough task in overcoming the team from the Canary Islands over two legs in the Copa del Rey over the next week.
Simeone has been tinkering with his side and has opted for Juanfran as a midfielder in recent weeks. It will be interesting to see how he selects his side in training on Monday ahead of the game.
Atletico have a new injury concern ahead of this one, as Yannick Carrasco tweaked his Achilles and will not make the trip. They are still missing Tiago, Augusto Fernandez and Jan Oblak. Filipe Luis was cleared to play against Ittihad. Las Palmas could be without Sergio Araujo and Kevin Prince Boateng but it remains to be seen how they returned from their winter break.
(We will update with squad details and news of injuries when we get them.)
