Atletico Madrid are getting set to welcome Bayern Munich to the Vicente Calderon on Wednesday, as the two sides continue their Champions League group stage quests in a rematch of last year’s semifinal. Atletico took the home leg of that semifinal back in April, recording a 1-0 win thanks to Saul Niguez’ 11th minute wonder goal. Bayern have since swapped Pep Guardiola for Carlo Ancelotti and have won all eight games it has played so far this season.
On Tuesday, Atletico announced its 18-man squad for this partidazo:
GK: Jan Oblak, Andre Moreira
DF: DIago Godin, Filipe Luis, Stefan Savic, Sime Vrsaljko, Lucas Hernández, Juanfran
MF: Koke, Saul, Yannick Carrasco, Gabi, Thomas Partey, Nicolas Gaitan
FW: Antoine Griezmann, Fernando Torres, Angel Correa, Kevin Gameiro
Atleti are of course without Augusto Fernandez after the Argentine tore his ACL over the weekend, while Jose Gimenez and Tiago are both recovering from hamstring injuries. Otherwise, Diego Simeone will be able to call on his strongest XI to counter Ancelotti’s Bayern.
Predicted XI: Oblak; Juanfran, Godin, Savic, Filipe; Gabi, Saul, Koke, Carrasco; Griezmann, Gameiro.
