Antoine Griezmann has decided to go it alone and represent himself after deciding not to renew his contract with Spanish consultancy agency Grupo Santos.

The French player, who has stated previously that he wants to “eat at the same table” as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi could be poised for a huge move in the coming transfer windows given the news that Diego Simeone has had his contract reduced by two years until 2018 with the Spanish club.

The 25-year-old was one of the players of the tournament during Euro 2016 and finished the competition as the top scorer. He scored twice for Atletico against Celta Vigo in their recent 4-0 victory and is set for another huge year at the Calderon.

"From now I'm going to operate without an agent," he told L'Equipe.

"But I will always have the advice of my father and also my mentor, Eric Olhats.”

Griezmann has attracted interest from the world’s biggest clubs including Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona but with Atletico’s transfer ban confirmed for the next two windows, they will be reluctant to let the player leave.

Diego Simeone said he had to think things over following Atletico’s crushing defeat at the hands of Real Madrid in the Champions League final last year, which threw Griezmann’s future at the club.

“The only doubt would be if Simeone leaves for PSG or wherever.”

“I called him before extending my contract and he confirmed to me that he was staying. I can learn a lot from him,” he said at the time.

Atletico have not started the season as they might have hoped but remain unbeaten in La Liga and the Champions League and have only conceded one goal - albeit a last minute equaliser against newly-promoted Alaves.

News of Griezmann’s parting with his agent and Simeone’s contract emerging at the same time does not bode well for their futures with the club but with the season in full swing and no sign of either leaving in the next nine months, the advice would be to enjoy it while it lasts!
